HEAT TREATMENT
Hardening
To achieve the optimum hardness, preheat the material
slowly, preferably in a salt bath or a controlled atmosphere furnace
to 300 / 500 C. Soak thoroughly for approximately 30 minutes. Continue
to heat to 780 / 820 C. Soak for a minimum of 15 minutes.
(Please Note: All temperatures and soaking times would require adjusting
according to the size and complexity of the section.)
Quench in Oil until cool to touch.
Tempering
To obtain the following hardness results, hold at
appropriate temperature for 1 hour per inch of thickness.
| Hardness (Hrc) |
62/63 |
60/61 |
58/59 |
55/57 |
